If you like the music of SYML, Vance Joy, George Ezra and Neil Finn, you’ll almost certainly appreciate Kiwi dream folk specialist Mathew James White. The New Zealand-born, Germany-based singer-songwriter is often compared to these artists, with a repertoire full of memorable hooks, warm melodies and uplifting songs.

His music is reaching millions of people on TikTok, with nearly 30 million views in recent months.

His songs have been featured on Netflix and MTV UK, including “Only The Light” in the Netflix mini-series From Scratch.

Mathew has spent much of his career touring Europe, building a strong and growing fan base and often playing to sold-out houses. He played at the Blue Balls Festival 2017 in Lucerne, alongside artists such as David Gray, Peter Doherty and José González.

While he continues to tour, Mathew has increasingly focused on writing and composing for TV and film. His song “Only The Light” – an uplifting alt-pop anthem – was featured in the Netflix mini-series From Scratch.

He has released eight albums to date, three of which were made available exclusively through his website: We’re Home Now (2023), Getting Through This With Positive Sounds (2021) and Old and New (2019). His fourth album, I’m Thinking of You (2017), is his most personal work to date and was strongly influenced by the loss of his first son in 2014.
